Mental health in Ukraine
June 17, 2025

Mental health in Ukraine is in decline – the figures speak for themselves.
Volodymyr Korostiy, Mental Health and Psychosocial Coordinator, is participating in the international conference “Contemporary research on war-related mental health traumas” held in Warsaw by the Polish Academy of Sciences.
As part of the presentations on the impact of war on mental health, it was reported that due to the war in Ukraine, more than 9.5 million people could need psychological support, with the number of refugees exceeding 6.5. At the same time, 3.8 million people have been displaced within Ukraine, with 52% coming from partially or fully occupied areas. Reality is harsh: the war in Ukraine is not near ending and the humanitarian crisis is deepening. Mental health is an invisible front line – but it is just as devastating.
MdM continues its Mental Health and Psychosocial Support activities in Ukraine for as long as it takes MdM is implementing the “Beyond Trauma” mental health project in Ukraine, focusing on supporting the most vulnerable groups of the population through educational activities. The project is funded by the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO) and implemented in partnership with War Child Alliance, MdM Greece, MdM Netherlands, AFEW Ukraine and USSF.
