Hospitals are not a target

September 30, 2024

In the early morning hours of September 28, Russian forces launched a double attack on the “St. Panteleimon Hospital” in the Sumy region of Ukraine. At the time of the attacks, 38 medical staff were on duty, and 86 patients were being treated, including 15 individuals with limited mobility. Despite immediate efforts to evacuate and provide first aid, 10 people died, including one nursing staff member, while several others have been reported injured.

Last year, MdM-Greece, which maintains a stable presence in the region, provided medical assistance to the hospital in response to the humanitarian crisis in Ukraine. It is important to note that the hospital was severely damaged, resulting in significant losses of valuable medical equipment.
