May 8, 2025

In the framework of the Beyond Trauma Project, MdM-Greece conducted a total of five MHPSS trainings throughout April 2025:
- An mhGAP training in Kharkiv from April 22–25, with 17 participants from Kharkiv Medical University.
- An mhGAP training in Sumy from April 28 to May 1, with 22 participants.
- A PM+ training in Chernivtsi from April 28 to May 2, with 20 participants.
In addition, MdM-Greece piloted a Training of Trainers on the “Inner Strengths Program” in Chernivtsi from March 31 to April 4, engaging 30 participants -primarily from civil society and the education sectors- divided into two separate groups.
Attacks on Sumy
On Sunday, April 12, 2025, two ballistic missiles struck the city center of Sumy, killing 35 people, including children, and injuring at least 119, according to Reuters. The attack targeted a densely populated area, including Sumy State University, where MdM-Greece was scheduled to conduct a mental health training session at the end of the month. The seminar was planned at this university precisely because it had been identified as one of the few locations in the city offering appropriate shelter during emergencies. As civilian infrastructure, the university building is protected under International Humanitarian Law and should not have been targeted.
